Comments:

Thanks for bothering to read this. The “comments” from others are always
fascinating to me. Everybody has their own story and perspective and it is
lots of fun to read them (and to understand their point of view).

Conditions were interesting from here with lots of peaks and valleys throughout
the weekend. Sometimes I thought the rig wasn’t working while at other times
(not too many) I felt like I was running a KW. I guess the trick is to just
stay in the chair and see it through to the end.

Low points:
Only worked 2z and 2c on 160 (last year had 3 and 5)

Only 9z and 13c on 80 (last year was 10 and 27 – YIKES). I used the same
antennas as before.

With operating time total at just 39 hours, I’m still finding it tough (well,
impossible) to achieve the 40+ hour operating time goal. I think very, very
slow rates does not help me to stay awake.

Calling CQ over 300 times and receiving only two (2) replies.

Best rate last year was an 84 hour (all S+P); this year’s best was just 51.
I even had a one (1) hour. :-(

High Points:
Overall QSO’s up 6% while Mults were up 1.1% (I’ll take it).

Score up 9% (from last year) to 758,880 points, but still a very long way from
2000 when I ended up with 1,703,808 points, 1,330 Q’s, 106 zones, and 353
countries. Gosh…a million points down. Hurry up sunspot cycle!

For the first time ever, I worked JA on 40m (qrp); in fact, I worked three of
them.

Also on 40, worked zones 17 and 19 (qrp), but missed z18 (I did hear one…but
not vice-versa).

For the first time ever, I worked ZL long path on 20 (qrp).

Worked HC8GR on 5 bands.

Worked VQ5V on 5 bands.

“It always happens” category:
Spent a full 3 minutes calling (finally working) ZD8RH on 15 at 1730z (whew).
Found him on 20m at 1849z and got him on the first call (but honestly, nobody
else was calling).

Called TF3CW “forever” before giving up only find him later (40m) and snag
him on my first call.

QRQ gang:
Sometimes (for me) the best way to “crack a pileup” with QRP is to know
that the op can copy QRQ. I consistently worked the following guys (multiple
bands) by cranking up the cw speed and dumping it in when I heard a lull in the
callers. Worked every time.
4O3A, 6W1RW, 8P5A, CR2X, CR3E, and V47NT.

Station: Elecraft K3/10, same 2L HB quad at 55 feet, same OB11-3 tribander at
72 feet and 402CD at 80 feet. 80m inverted V with apex at 50 feet and 160
dipole (even lower).

CONCLUSION: Hey, it’s CQWW cw…can it ever be “bad?”
