Comments:

I had not had the opportunity to get on for the CQP since 2004. Activity was
great. I heard nothing on 10m. I went to bed too early to give 80m a good go or
160m a go at all. I had some runs on phone, but nothing on CW. I spent more time
S&P than I do for most contests. It was nice to get on for two relatively long
stretches for this contest. My wife and family were GREAT. One of my daughters
who has an on again off again fascination for what I do with ham radio sat with
me for at least a half an hour listing to me run folks. I have the output of
each rig fed into speakers for folks to listen. She had never really understood
just how tricky it is to pull folks out of the muck and noise. As a result she
is starting again to ask questions! Hmmm...maybe there is hope.

I used N1MM for the first time at my home station. I was using CQP as a good
contest to get up on the N1MM learning curve (or the TRLog unlearning curve).
The new (to me) four letter county abbreviations were difficult without TRLog
allowing me to just get pretty close or use an alias like "LAX" for LANG for
example. I need to figure out how to let N1MM accept other spellings for next
year or other QSO parties. I also need to figure out how to find out which
counties I still need. I had 55 counties before I quit on Saturday, but did not
know which ones I needed. It added a bit to the surprise of working K6RM in MERC
for my 58th at 2031Z.

Along with the switch to N1MM was a switch to a new computer running XP Pro
(which is really WHY I switched logging programs). The on board sound interface
on the new computer is TERRIBLE at low output levels. Folks who worked me on 15m
surely heard the crappy digital sounding background noises generated by CPU and
disk activity! It was driving me NUTS! I rerouted cables in the computer and
even went so far as to solder decoupling caps on the motherboard...no real joy.
I have a new card on order and hopefully that will take care of the trouble.

The contest cost me some equipment and repair time. My TS850 overheated and
will no longer transmit. That will take some effort to fix. The step-start on
my SB220 stopped working correctly after I popped one of the circuit breakers
on the back of the amp. I expect it will be easy to fix. There were other items
I had fixed/upgraded at the station over the Spring/Summer which proved to be
very stable. Bottom line is I will probably be SO1R for CQWW and SS coming up
shortly.
