Comments:

Only real active mobile was N4XML and he ran on SSB - most if not all of the
state. If you didn't look on 14.336 and 7188 (county hunter frequencies) you
likely didn't see him. Very poor activity from most other big gun SC
stations. Just a few putting out their own counties other than K4QNW who was
on for hours and hours making a real effort. Sort of disappointing in the
Year of the State QSO party to barely have six counties with fixed stations on
the air.

Rule about 'spotting' is self defeating. If the idea is to generate lots of
activity, when almost no one is on, and operation of who ever shows up is just
for short time, you want folks to be able to find them without sitting at the
radio for 20 hours for ten contacts. At the same time, the WA state Salmon Run
was going on, with literally dozens of fixed stations on for at least a dozen
hours. Most of the county hunters are looking for contacts and won't bother to
send in a log anyway, so the rule is sort of irrelevant for 90% of the
participants and just makes it so they don't bother to send in logs.

With the mobile internet, or simple instant messaging you can now spot yourself
on the county hunter web sites. No reason to sit trying to find a frequency and
get some 'action' on 20M SSB or 40M ssb with static, when few are actually
looking for you - unless you do spot yourself so folks bother to tune to where
you are at. That's just a way of life for mobiles. If you don't get spotted,
and you have a QSO Party where there is one or two mobiles out there...well, the
contesters just give up and watch football or go on a picnic. Why bother when
you spend 20 hours hunting for six contacts? (on the other hand, 15 hours
resulted in 50+ QSO in the WA state QSO Party.

Well, maybe the SC folks will figure out how to make it better. If you need SC
counties, in about a month, 100 county hunters will converge on SC for a
mini-convention and run the state over and over again - PSK , CW, SSB.
Meanwhile, it's sort of pathetic to see entries with 1 or 2 contacts for the
whole contest on the 3830 reflector!
