Comments:

My best result in this event, nearly doubling last year's Q count. What was the
difference? New amp recently (900w vs. 500w) made me feel louder, but that
couldn't be it. Same crummy antenna and QTH (vee at 50 feet in a deep canyon).
Couldn't be that, either. For the first time on 160, I was able to hold run
frequencies. Friday night, I had my longest run ever--just over three hours
with sustained rates of 90-100. Similar success on Saturday, except Friday's
work thinned out the available unworked stations. I may have been a bit
louder, but those rates were in the hands of the multitude of fine ops that
responded to my calls. Thanks everyone for this memorable event!!

At least a dozen stations didn't make it into my log because they didn't hang
around long enough to confirm their callsigns or sections when I thrice
requested a fill. 160m is the band where ops sometimes have to "dig" to
complete the QSO through the QRN and the packed spectrum. 15m operating skills
just won't always hack it on the Gentleman's Band.

I never heard a peep from the usual commonly worked sections: ENY, NNY, and
PR. Nearly every 2-land call I heard/worked was not in 2-land! AK is usually
workable for me, but nada heard. No surprise not to hear NL and NWT. Perhaps
local midnight is too early to call it quits.

For my antenna farm, and considering the east coast wall, EU is out of the
question. I occasionally work a JA and put two in the log. There must be a
better antenna somewhere, but a canyon location, rough, non-level terrain, and
no tall trees surely have their drawbacks. At least we are "out" of New Mexico
winds here!

Thanks again, and see you in the Stew!

73, dan
