Once again, a great show by all! With more than ten mobiles or portables
zipping around the state and more than a few fixed stations on the air, I could
only have had more fun if I'd been there on wheels. I actually considered it
since I have relatives in southwestern Minnesota (Watonwan county, I think),
but didn't make it this year.

I had good 80m and 40m propagation most of the day and I started picking up
mobiles right off the top. I actually heard a few of the fixed stations weakly
on 20m, but could never get through. I got lots of answers to SSB CQs, but the
mobile action was just too thick, so a series of short CQs was all I could
manage on phone. I picked up a few counties I know I missed with the mobiles.

In the middle of the afternoon, conditions on both 80m and 40m were dropping,
so I took a break for a sandwich. When I came back, nada. I thought at first
I had radio or antenna problem, but things slowly came back. The flare really
did a number and I lost several counties because of it. Counties missed were
Marshall, Swift, Wilkin and Yellow Medicine.

Overall, I worked 81 unique calls, and the list of mobiles/portables to thank
is long:

26 N0IJ
24 NE9U K0PC
23 N0PI
16 N0IM W0ZQ (Jon wins the loudest mobile signal into KS award)
14 N0EO
10 N0UR
9 K0LD
4 NR0T
2 KE0G W9FZ

The MWA and fixed stations deserve a round of applause for a job well done as
well! An excellent way to spend a Saturday.

73, Bob, w0bh
