Wow that was fun!
I was ready in all respects for this one. Including the expectation of much
better
conditions. Although 15 was better than expected even with my expectations.
Opened on 40 with a personal best 93 hour (for ARRL DX CW). And rate stayed
better
than last year all through the night. My first goal point is always 1059Z
which tends
to be just before the big hours on 20 so its a good indication of the 160 - 40
for the
first night. This year I had 640 Qs, last year I had 425Qs at that point.
Then the monsterous first morning started. Hung on to 20M for probably a
little too
long but was really enjoying 140 - 150 steadu hours with peaks of 200 on the
meter.
Then when to 15M for more of the same and then back on 20. I believe it was
after 18Z
before the rates got more "normal". Amazing for Low Powe to see that for that
long.
40M had pretty darned good run at 21 - 01Z with a break on 15M to work Pacific
which
quickly became also JA!!! WoW JA on 15M, its been probably 2006 since I worked
JA on 15M.
20M was in fabulous shape as well. Should have CQ'd more on 20M to JA and UA0
in
retrospect.
80M runs to EU were "okay" but probably the only "ho hum" of the contest.
Still was my
best 80M up just slightly from last year.
40M was down from last year. Not really sure why but had fabulous rate at
times. Maybe
I should have moved around more and tried different run frequencies.
10M - worked 2 EU. TM6M and 9A1A. Plus the EA8s and CU and CT3s etc. TM6M
called me right
after I worked 9A1A and figured I would try CQing. No one else called.
This was the best score and Qs and Mults total ever for me in this contest. It
appears to
be the 4th highest raw total score ever in LP for USA SOAB and the second
highest Q total
ever in the category.
Can't wait for "real" sunspot activity hopefully starting in earnest for the
2010 Fall
season and continuing on for 4 years after that!
Thanks to all the contesters around the world for making this a real treat for
the USA
hams. And to my wife Christine, KB1PQN, for her constant support.
