Happy New Year.
Thanks to all who participated and especially to those whom I worked.
Bands were as expected. Fifteen meters was not as good as it has been, but
there was some life on the band.
Contest started with winds gusting to over 35 MPH. The T2X has been changed
enough times to make me conservative on when I use it in wind. Sat. and Sun.
were conservative days. The ability of the SteppIR ant. to reverse kept a
reasonable signal going in the other direction without having to turn the ant.
One problem discovered during the last hour was the failure of the 80 m
xmitting ant. The ant. worked okay the first evening, but now when more than
200 W are applied the SWR goes up. Not sure, but suspect water in the balun
container on the tower and, today, it had to be ice as the temp. never got
above 28 F. Hopefully, there will be a nice day or two between now and the WPX
RTTY Contest to find out what is wrong.
Still having difficulties with Writelog dropping the PTT line. Other S/W works
fine. Same thing happens at low power as did use the 80 xmitting ant. during
the last hour of the Contest with the same WL dropping PTT at 80 W. Not
looking forward to learning another S/W contest package, but may have to as WL
doesn't seem to be interested in addressing the issue.
Hope all the participants and your families have a healthy and prosperous
2010.
73,
Mike, K4GMH
