903 - FT-847, DEMI xvtr (10W), M2 902-14WLC @ 65'

Not a spectacular weekend, but good fun nonetheless.

The low point was turning on the homebrew K1FO-style 8874 amp to tune it up,
and something inside went "zzzzzt" and both grid and plate meters went to full
scale (not pinned, just full scale). Fortunately, the HV supply was not
crowbarred, so I don't know exactly what failed. This left me with only 50W on
432 for the entire contest.

The high point fun-wise were my first-ever 903 contest QSOs. Best DX was
WA8RJF in EN91 at 126 miles, which I didn't think was too bad for a used
"eBay-special" 10W DEMI transverter.

Another high point was getting my WSJT gear hooked up to a 50 MHz antenna for
the first time and seeing W4NH, K5QE and N3NGE pretty consistently for about an
hour Saturday night. Another low point occurred when I discovered that my
TIgertronics SignaLinkUSB wouldn't transmit so I couldn't try to work them.
(This despite successfully transmitting into a dummy load the week before
during testing - somehow the Windows mixer level got get to minimum preventing
the SignaLinkUSB's PTT from triggering).

Biggest surprise was finding Bob, W4MYA in FM07 at 420 miles CQing on 144.220
with a really good signal and working him easily. QSY'd to 50 MHz and made the
grade there are well.

Best DX was getting N3NGE in FN20 at 424 miles on 50 thru 432 in the last 5
minutes of the contest.

I have a whole list of stuff to change or fix. I'll be ready for June, and
hope to be QRV on 1296 by then.

73, Dave/K8CC
