Comments:
This weekend I was mainly a DXer. My code skills are not that great
and even worse after the last two or three years of not getting in
much CW operating time. I did very little CQing during the first half
of the contest, I was just full-time chasing packet / skimmer spots on
the band map. I did a bit more CQing as the contest progressed but not
too much. I did work non mults and more of them as time went on but
for the most part I just chased the new ones on the band map. It was
great fun.
For the last 4 or 5 years it seems the low bands have been very good
in the CQ WW SSB contest (the contest I have been doing each year) and
each year I say wow - 80 meters sure was good and we should not be
doing that well from here etc. And each year it is better than the
last. Well, 80 meters (as noted elsewhere) was in really fine form
too bad I spent so much time on 40 meters the first night before
making my first contacts on 80. It was great, quiet, signals from EU
that I could hear here in Central Texas and it seems it was quiet on
the other end too as I kept getting answers. What fun. I never would
have dreamed of working 100 countries from Texas on 80 meters with
just a few wires.
After the first night I had these numbers on the low bands:

That was fun.
I will echo N2IC's comments about DX stations that signing their call
signs. Even though I was assisted I like to hear the DX station call
sign before I go off to the next contact. I don't require you to sign
your call on every contact but it would be nice to do it a few times.
Speaking of N2IC, WOW! what a score. Same goes for N5AW what a great
low power score. Not bad for a couple of 5's.
I am looking forward to seeing many more big scores from all over the
country and world - it was a great contest weekend.
