Comments:
That was fun. This was my first full-time all-band 48-hour contest
since putting up the tower and tribander. The CQ WW CW doesn't count
since that contest was a 160 single band test for me.
My goal was 1 meel-yun (think Dr. Evil) points and 1000 contacts which
seemed fairly easy. I passed that objective early Sunday morning. I
didn't set a new goal until the last hour of the contest when I
noticed that I was at 1.9 million points. So, a raw score over 2
million became the new goal. Nothing like a tight race to make the
last hour interesting.
Worked VU and BY for the first time in my ham career. Now I'm glad
that most of the population of the world has been exposed to my hobby
activities. I ran a bunch of JAs and worked VR and the T30. I think
the All Asian contest is going to be a lot more fun now.
Towards the end of the contest the shack started to smell of hot
plastic. I hope I didn't permanently melt anything.
Some very minor complaints: Whats with the obvious macro some of you
are using to echo my serial number? When signals are very weak the
extra number in the exchange confuses things. Also, everyone needs to
add a space as the last character in each of their stock messages so
that the junk that pops out of my demodulator when your transmitter
shuts off doesn't look like part of your call or exchange. Finally,
each time I ask for a repeat, you should increase the number of times
you transmit the requested information.
Here is an observation: transmitting the serial number twice works
most of the time. But when one digit gets corrupted, then I don't
know which instance of the serial number is correct. Maybe we should
send the number 3 times by default.
Equipment: K3 with sub-receiver, ETO-91B (thanks Jeff), X7 at 60 feet,
quarter wave ground mounted 40 meter vertical over 32 radials, 50 foot
"cage" vertical on 80 meters over 80 radials.
