I had been out of the country in 2009 (Antarctica) and 2010 (India), and did
not use the vertical in 2008, so this was my first ARRL DX CW from Colorado
with a non-indoor antenna. It's fun when you realize all the DX is pointing at
YOU (as opposed to CQWW). That made working South America easier when everyone
on the east coast was still pointing at Europe.

I made a few QSOs on 40M around midnight local time, but didn't really start
until 6:30 a.m. local time on Saturday. 40M was perhaps in the best shape to
Asia that I've ever heard from here. Except for P29, I can't think of ANYTHING
I called that I didn't work the first or second time (incl. 9M6, DU, HL, KH0, BV
and even UW1M). 20M to Europe seemed down, and 15M was no better, until I
worked I4LEC at 1632Z (9:32 a.m. local time), at which point the band seemed to
POP open with good signals for the next couple of hours. I had to constantly
check 10M, as signals would pop in and out of the noise seemingly randomly,
although it seemed that the stations that were loud/consistent on Saturday
(like LS1D, PZ5P and ZF2AM) were also loud/consistent on Sunday. I heard the
PJs pop in briefly, but couldn't get their attention. I worked KH6LC at 2231Z
(thanks for sticking with me), which I believe is the first KH6 I've worked on
10M from here (I know, excited about the little things), and first since 2005!

I missed most of Saturday afternoon/evening but got on 40M around European
sunrise to work some multipliers, all of which were new and many of which were
a struggle. I went from 25 to 58 multipliers in less than two hours. Sunday
morning on 40M had far less variety than Saturday, although I did work VR2PX
almost 45 minutes past sunrise. I could not break the NH0S/KH2 pileup; even
though he was loud, he had trouble picking out the callers, then finally went
to SSB. I bided (bid?) my time on 20M into Europe, but it was tough. I hoped
15M would open like it did Saturday, but it never came close though I could
work Europe for about a half hour or so.

I was very excited to work PJ6A on 10M at 1800z, the only "new" PJ I still
needed for my 10M DXCC. I also got PJ2T, but never heard PJ4A loud or long
enough to call. I had a visitor in the shack, so while we talked packet
pileups and baseball, I made but a few QSO when I could (I think I clocked a
"3" hour). Again, missed most of Sunday afternoon, but got on for the last 1.5
hours, which I had missed Saturday. 15M was good into JA, 20M not so much, so
once again, 20M had my worst JA total of the three bands. I took turns
rotating through the packet pileups on 20M, and I finally got through most of
them when the pileups got thin enough, or I got lucky with a well-timed call.
I regret not pursuing HC2/KF6ZWD on 15M, we worked on the other three bands
(four-banders are fun). It was fun working NH2T and 9M6YBG on 15M without too
much difficulty.

4-band QSOs: 8P3A, AY5F, C6AGU, CO8ZZ, CW5W, HI3CC, KH6LC, LS1D, P49V, PJ2T,
PJ6A, PY2NDX, PZ5P, TI5A, V31RR, VQ5D and ZF2AM.

Thanks once again to everyone who went somewhere, got on the air, or heard me
calling!

Count of countries worked on each band:
