Comments:

I had low expectations going into the contest since I knew I would only be
running 100 watts. My usual loaner amp from K4BAI - an AL811H - is in the shop
for repairs. He is loaning me another amp - a Ten Tec Titan - but I need to
have an electrician to come out to the house to put in a sub panel so I can use
it. So I just plugged away thinking I would just quit when I got too frustrated
with the DX stations not hearing me.

I left work early on Friday to get some much need and overdue work done on my
Inverted L. It had been quickly thrown up back in December before the Stew
Perry so I could just get on air. I ended up getting the vertical part about 20
feet higher in the trees. I also elevated the four - 130 ft radials that were
laying on the ground. They are now all about 4 feet off the ground and held up
by some trees.

The antenna work seemed to pay off as the Inverted L performed the better than
it has in the past. My score ended up higher (and I worked more counties) than
what I had last year running an amp. I'm thinking of adding some more elevated
radials to improve it even more.

I worked all states except for ID. In VE I only missed LB,NU,NWT and YT. The
frustrating thing was I heard tons of EU that I couldn't get through to. I
counted at least 12 EU multipliers that I heard but missed. The conditions were
much better than what I expected. See everyone in the next one...
