Comments:

If you grew-up in contesting from the Western USA you soon learned that JA's
were your best friends. That remains true today, but with the addition of the
many HL, BY, UA0, YB and other fine Asian ops. It's a great pleasure to work
these folks in their contest.

This was a shakedown-cruise for Chuck's rebuilt 40M Yagi and I'd say it's
good-as-new & better than ever. Saturday was earlier to open and with better
signals than Sunday, but 40 was productive both nights. 160? Um, thanks
anyway. 80 Meter signals lacked the strength to penetrate the QRN-curtain both
nights. 20 was, well, 20. It produced the loudest Asian signals I've ever
heard on Sunday AM, really an impressive opening. But where were all the
UA9's?
There were Khz-wide activity-gaps both nights when the band should've been
jammed-up with QSO's. 15 tried, but could never quite fully open-up. Saturday
night had a few surprises, the best of which was VU2PTT after 03Z. But it was
never a producing enterprise. The only station heard on 10 was W5WMU. He was
loud. Guess I couldn't ride that e-skip all the way to Asia...

As N9RV mentioned, this one reminds us that we're getting older--and that means
ALL of us. Gratifying to work our old friends but a little distressing to note
the apparent lack of a replacement-generation. Seems like just yesterday we
were all 35...

Thanks for the QSO's and thanks to JARL for sponsoring such a great and
long-running event. And thanks, Chuck, for allowing me to put the station on
for this one. Dad must've been pretty proud seeing his girls play so well in
that volleyball tournament. And please notice that I remembered to turn off
the coffee machine this time!
