Comments:
We got the station partially going for the contest and got a good test on 15 and
10. The soaring solar flux and sunspot counts brought both of these bands
back to life in a big way. We had amazing pile-ups all day on 15 that never
seemed to slow down until the band closed. 10 meters wasn't far behind. It
started to sound like the good old days are back. Thanks to all who called.
The station still has major hurricane damage from the last few seasons. The
full 10 meter array is not up yet and the 20 meter yagi used to be a 6L but is
only a driven element and reflector at the moment. The rig and amp don't take
kindly to this as we move around the band. Both of the 15 meter 5L yagis are
up, but we were only using the top antenna (100 feet) for this contest. The
large antennas for the low bands are not up yet. We had a single 1/4 wave
vertical for 40, a sloper for 80 and nothing on 160. No beverages or any
other RX antennas. You can probably imagine what 40 and 80 sounded like. It
wasn't pretty.
We should be on for the WPX SSB contest and will work the DX stations we could
not work for contest credit this weekend. By WPX we should have up something
better on 40. There's only 2 old guys doing all the antenna work and we have
other maintenance projects around the house as well. See you in the WPX
SSB.
