Comments:
Ugh. Conditions were challenging to say the least. After weeks of a quiet sun
we end up with disturbances and storms all weekend! Even so, lots of great
activity. Just not as much DX.
I was a single parent this weekend so only a part time effort. Tried to be on
for the best hours, when I could find them. I admire the guys who stuck it out
for full efforts in the face of the poor conditions.
Every year I have to relearn the fact that summer time contesting is different.
Everything is upside down. The best openings happen in the afternoon and
evening rather than in the mornings.
An interesting experiment on Sunday afternoon. With rates so low, I tried
running on two bands at the same time using dueling CQs. Very intense trying
to send on one radio while copying an exchange on the other. I am sure I
sounded like a lid at times. Definitely helped the rate! Had a full hour of
120 QSOs while doing this.
I did not run into any lids all weekend. Very good operating. People were
excellent at repeating their number when asked. No frequency fights. I love
CW.
The continent breakdown says it all. Not the normal 70+% Europe.
