Comments:
Certainly not the the best weekend. Decided at the last minute to do 20M. Had
planned to do 15M but that band sounded flat on Friday afternoon. Friday night
was okay. Conditions on Saturday kept getting worse. Quit at 0200ish with
around 650 Q's. Started up around 1000 on Sunday and took 30 minutes to work
my first station. Took a couple hour break and came back for an hour around
1230ish. That was pretty depressing so I decided mowing the lawn and cleaning
the pool was more productive. Did that, watched some of the Indy 500 and
started up again at 1715. Conditions were much better then. EU was quite loud.
Lots of S&P with a few decent runs. Starting at 2115 I found a good spot and
had a decent run (120 or so) until the power died at 2243 (cost me a mult).
Thought about getting the generator out but decided by the time I got
everything ready the contest would be over. Turns out the transformer in the
back yard shorted and took out a couple of houses. The DP&L troubleshooter
showed up about 9:00PM and reset the fuse on the pole by the road. That fixed
the neighbors but not mine. He then checked the fuse in my transformer - it
was blown. He tried to replace it with rather spectaular results - big bang
and lots of smoke. That discouraged him from going much farther. He said get
out your genertor which I did to keep a few lights on and the food cold. The
power company could not find anyone willing to come out and fix it in the
middle of the night. Around midnight the troubleshooter showed up with a
portable whole house generator (wish I had one of these)and wired it in. With
any luck the power guys will show up today with a new transformer.
