Comments:
This contest was a great opportunity to hone skills under adverse
and challenging conditions.
I was tracking the progress of competing stations on
http://cqcontest.ru/readscore.jsp
Also hope that more stations come onboard. Great site !!
I estimate that At least 20% of the QSO's were fished out at noise level
and/or high QRN -plus all sorts of fading, backscatter, etc..
Hardware: FT-100MP +AL800H @ 1KW
Antennas: Rotable 3 ele Yagi @75 ft + 3ele Yagi @ 45 ft (fixed to East coast)

THE CONTEST
DAY 1 UTC (contest starts on Friday at 6PM XE time)
The contest started really slow with just one JA station contacted
and after 30 minutes, I needed to quit to attend a customer call.
Returned at 0200z (20:00hs local night) to find out a complete dead band.
Saturday XE morning: the band began to "open" at 01300z, although with
noticeable ups and downs on
intensity and unpredictable propagation.
So the first 2 hours were spent S&P and switching back and forth between CW
and SSB.
It was until at 1500z that I managed to run for almost 2 hours and bag two
XE mults (GTO and ZAC) at ground wave.
The rest of the day was a combination of S&P and short runs; almost fell out of
my chair
when -in one of those mini runs to stateside,I was called by 5H3EE !
Wow, this lifted my spirit and helped me to keep the race going -although at
very at very low rates.
DAY 2 UTC
Saturday Night XE: The band closed much later (0324z) than our previous Friday
night. When
the rate dropped to 12/hr I decided to get some sleep.
Sunday Morning XE: I started at 1533z, I heard the first EU around 1600z (LZ9W)
and called him with no luck;
his signal was really faint and just lasted a couple minutes, then it
disappeared.
I started to run and finally worked my 1st EU at 1639z -big gun F5IN- with a
weak but copyable signal.
Right after that, I did hard stop to make an urgent errand and also enjoy an
unimissable breakfast
accompanied by a legendary homemade salsa by XYL.
Batteries charged -and fully caffeinated, I resumed the test an hour later
-runnning,
with few -but great, catches such as D4C, two F and 2 CT stations.
I had my best SSB run ~120/hour at 2000z.
The rest of the contest was mainly done alternating short runs of CW and SSB
with some S&P to get mutipliers.
In the last 15 minutes I was rewarded with AK and TI multipliers.
------------
Strange things:
- Only 12 JA's
- CE's, their signasl were by far, the strongest fom SA
- More LU's (38) than PY's (27)
- SAturday afternoon I heard (SSB) a VE6 on my face, with a relative strong
signal57 and he could not copy me.
He mentioned that my signal-despite my 1KW, was very weak! Go figure.
- I never heard a single EU station during our Saturday XE morning (more like
the bottom of the cycle years).
------------------
STATISTICS:
- Mixed mode QSO's volume: 68% CW 32% SSB
- About 80% Running 20% S&P
- Most of the QSO's volume was stateside: 75% .
The Northeast coast produced 40% of this volume (see details below)
