Comments:

Thank you to the North Fulton Amateur Radio League, and Mack McCormick, W4AX
(call sign trustee) for use of the NF4GA call sign in this contest.  It
definitely helps to have a "cool" prefix in this event.

As is always the case, Hiram Percy's Maxim* was in full force.  I will console
myself with the comforting thought that my absence on Saturday morning was for
the betterment of the hobby - I was part of a team that helped fifteen Boy
Scouts earn their Radio Merit Badge.  We preached a convincing sermon on the
virtues of getting a license and becoming a Ham Radio operator.  I also have a
standing engagement on Sunday mornings behind a sound board that starts at 0700
local.

Based on my limited time. I made the tactical decision to operate only on one
band, and chose 40M as my weapon of choice.  I only had three runs greater than
10 QSOs, but I did "peg the meter" for one brief moment at 120 Qs/hr.  My lofty
and idyllic goal was 30 Qs an hour average for my time in the event, but in the
end, I only managed half that rate, 15.7.  This seems to be a recurring number
through the past few RTTY events I've dabbled in and will serve as teh
benchmark to improve on as I seek to hone my skills.

My runs of 1:40, 3:06, and 2:24, are a testimony to my hard-taught lesson that
fighting the urge to chase "a shiny prefix" does have its rewards.  Although
the second run period was in the afternoon (locally) and only yielded a 5.2
Qs/hr rate, the first and last windows were at 25.0 and 19.1 Qs/hr
respectively.  I have never had a S&P rate anywhere close to that.

I am looking forward to the NAQP RTTY event in a few weeks where I will hope to
be on the air for an entire 10 hours.  I am anxious to see if I can do 200 Qs in
that contest, thus breaking the 20 Qs/hr average mark.
