K3/KPA-500 to 135' OCF Dipole at 45', TS-850, Titan 425, 51' T ant for 160
Mostly used the Reverse Beacon Network for high speed S&P - when I did spend
time running, my rate wasn't tremendously higher. Using the K3 in SO2V mode
with the RBN feed is more like running than S&P, anyway. A few times I got
synched up grabbing RBN spots with much louder US stations (like N3AM), so had
to change strategy but I often found I could be first to grab new mults like
DP1POL and NH2T before a pileup formed.
Every year in the ARRL it takes me a few hours to get used to cut numbers for
power - I never seem to anticipate the PY stations sending "AK"... I think EE5E
should be required to run 555 watts in this contest.
Didn't get on much at night, never found 80 in good shape. There was a great
160 EU sunrise opening on the second night, loud signals but just not that many
EU stations on.
I was sort of hoping the snow would hit our area on Sunday but it didn't - so
didn't get that much time in on Sunday morning. Towards the end 15 had a great
JA opening - the KW stations were honest 599 on my dipole, with the flux only
at 104. Here's to hoping we get at least one more year of these kind of
conditions.
