The bad:
Unable to repair control cable on SteppIR damaged Thursday
Thunderstorms first day. 160 and 80 almost useless, off 2 ½ hours
Internet down for the weekend after storm â€" XYL not happy
80 meters quieter Saturday evening but propagation poor
No European opening on ten Sunday, only fair Saturday
The good:
Appear to have set new 5th call area low power record
Great propagation to JA on all bands â€" 611 worked, 119 on 10
2 AM 20 meter opening to Europe Sunday. 177 QSOs in 80 minutes
Another great ARRL DX contest
Hoped to break 3 meg but thunderstorms and less than stellar ten meter
conditions to Europe stymied that. Maybe next year. Strange that ten was very
good to JA but marginal to Europe Saturday and nothing on Sunday. High point
was finding 20 meters open to Europe at 2 AM local time Sunday. With few W/VE
stations on the band at that time it was like being rare DX with a huge pile up
for over an hour. Fun but exhausting â€" makes me appreciate those DX stations
who can do that rate for hours on end.
