Comments:
The contest started out well, with lots of callers and a really great rate. By
early Saturday evening I really needed a rest break. I took a 30 minute break
at 0340Z. The plan was to take the remaining 5.5 hours from 0900Z til 1430Z,
when the rate is poor. However, at 0537Z one of the amplifiers decided to quit
working. It took me until 0730Z to get it operational again. The time lost was
prime 80/40 meter time. This also meant I could not count the 30 minute break
as off time, as I would have 3 off periods. The good news is, I did get the
amp working again and did finish the contest with it. I ended up staying on
until the rate really dropped and then got back on earlier than I would have
liked. I was only on for 23 hours, 24 minutes. The operating times were not
optimum for the conditions, but some things you just cannot plan for.
Nice to see 10 meters open this year. Last year, no contacts at all on 10.
Very difficult to work Europe. Conditions over the pole poor. Had a bit of an
opening to Europe on 20 Sunday morning, with a huge pileup. Most signals about
the same strength and it was just not possible to get a decent rate. This
European opening lasted less than 2 hours and then it was gone. Zero Eu on 10,
6 on 15, 115 on 20 and 13 on 40.
Thanks to all for the contacts. Great fun!
