Comments:
RTTY Roundup 2012 . Days before the contest we discovered a problem with our
recently purchased Alpha 9500 not changing bands properly . We had to make a
decision to just blow this contest off or do low power . Low power it was .
Contesting for many years , I found this was not a relaxing or fun contest to
say the least . We started out fine and was actually able with the monobanders
to have decent runs on 10 thru 20 meters however pile up busting was another
problem with low power . Then things got stress full.....going from 20 meters
to 40 meters late and the band map was wall to wall stations . Finding a spot
to operate was tough and trying to start a run next to impossible . I got
squeezed off my frequency several times . Time for S&P......productive but
slow. It wasn't long and I went to 80 meters and was able to get several good
but not great runs going. Later I went back to 20 meters thinking for some
evening action over the north pole......Nothing..... so back to 40 meters I
went and found it more productive this time around. I found when I quit at mid
night I felt stressed and thought about quitting . I also was having a problem
with my transmit offset not matching the band map spots and had to fix it too .
Sleep time.... and back at it in the morning finding 40 meters very productive
for a while, with a few JA'S calling too. When the rate dropped off it was time
for 20 meters and what a big difference now being able to run stations and many
Europeans too. The higher bands were very productive Sunday and those pile ups
easier the second day to bust . Chris my XYL operated while I had lunch and did
well for not operating in awhile. A lot of good DX called us on Sunday
...HZ1...D2...ZS'S and lots of South Americans . Great JA run at the end mixed
with a few UA0'S ZL'S VK'S and YB'S. Nice ending to a stress full event. I am
glad it's over ! Thanks to all for the contact . 73'S Jerry K0DU
