Comments:
Limited Rover for June VHF contest with most of my QSOs in WY. Initially set up
6m and 2m yagis in DN54 for first three hours of contest but nil QSOs! Finally,
went mobile in motion until 6m opened in the southern part of DN53, and later
in DN52 where I had a big opening Saturday afternoon near South Pass, a famous
gathering place for Oregon Trail wagon trains; made a few Q's in DN51 while
driving. On Sunday, had no opening in the morning but had a big opening in
early afternoon in DN61 on top of Snowy Range pass at 11,000 feet elevation
where it was very windy (35-40mph) which kept blowing my 2m and 432 yagi off
heading. Later Sunday afternoon, a few miles south of Walden, CO in DN60, I
had another big opening where my best DX was VE1 and east coast stations; at
dusk, I packed up heading towards Denver and only had one QSO in DN70, and a
few others in DM79 driving to the home QTH Sunday evening. It was a lot of
miles for 219+ QSOs, altho I was glad that at least the 6m band opened up. I
probably won't go so far roving next time.
Used a FT-450 w/ 100wts for 6m and IC910 for 2m and 432. Used 6m hamstick for
mobiling and a 3 el CC at 15' when setting up in one spot. Also, 2m halo for
driving and a 7 el when stationary.
Nice to meet up with Eric N7HYF and Jim N7DMO for an eyeball QSO in the Lander,
WY area DN52.
73 Ken, W0ETT/rover
