A big thank you to my dear friend Krassy Petkov K1LZ!
Thank you to Fred K1VR, Miki N8BO, Piero W1NA, Max I8NHJ and Pat I8QLS for
their hard work and participation.
Despite a decent score we suffered a lot of problems, particularly on the low
bands. We had to install a new 160m Delta Loop only hours before the contest,
the 80 meter four square appeared to be operational with only a single vertical
and the top MonsterIR was dead and the lower MonsterIR was stuck pointing at the
east coast.
Comparing to our 2009 score we came up short on all three low bands, 160, 80
and 40. In fact, our 20 meter score was way down also, but I think we can
attribute that to ten meters being wide open the first day.
Despite our troubles I think we were on track to at least make a run at the
record of 14 million when we finished up the first 24 hours with just under 8
million points.
We looked at the rates from the first 24 hour period with Fred K1VR running a
consistent 250 four hour run and my 290 and 322 two hour run and decided Fred
and I would sleep through the night and take over Sunday morning at 10am to try
for a 5 hour 2500+ run, but to my surprise the conditions on Sunday were less
than favorable.
It was strange. On ten meters I as working all over the USA and receiving
reports of +20 to +40, yet I couldn't ever get a run of station for any length
of time. I found my self calling CQ contest much of the day. 10 finally opened
up for some decent rates three hours before the end of the contest.
All in all I think we have decent score, but only time will tell if we beat
TI5N who I believe may be our biggest competitor.
Thanks to everyone in our logs and especially to those we worked on all 6
bands.
73,
David ~ KY1V
