Comments:
I had high hopes for this contest but ended up down 500q and a couple of mults
from last year.
As I now see, the lost qsos on 15 and 20 meters really cost me compared to last
year but all the bands were down except 10 which was about the same. It was
very hard to find a clear run frequency on any band and even harder to keep it
clear. Compared to CW when I worked JA on 15-80 meters I was only able to work
1 JA on 20 meters and the loud JA stations CQed in my face on 40 and were not
heard on 15 or 80.
I was very disappointed with my rate on 15 and 20 and I'm not really sure why
it was so slow. I was easily working some guys running only 5 watts but others
in northern europe were weak even with a kw. I have seen references to the RF
black hole but with only 2 OH stations in the log, now I see what they mean.
I found the majority of the stations calling me to be very nice and polite and
patient as I tried to pull their calls through the noise but as others have
commented a lot of stations on the bands had poor or distorted audio or were
splattering. If you are reading this I would recommend everyone check there
audio any time you change something in your stations just to make sure you are
putting out the best face you can for your stations as on the airwaves, that is
the biggest impression you make.
Thank you to all of the DX stations that operate in this contest. I know that
this contest can be a bit boring if you are not someplace with good propagation
to the US and without the thousands of stations throughout the world that
operate it would not be the event it is.
The station performed flawlessly except for the issue we are having with
RotorEZ/Yeasu 2800, for some reason since we upgraded the computer it is
sending the antennas to the wrong place....anyone has any ideas on what would
cause this I would appreciate it. Using hyperterminal it works perfectly but
DX4Win, N8LP, and N1MM all send it to the wrong place and it is not consistant.
N8LP shows it pointing 180 degrees off.
Special thanks to Jay and his family for being such accommodating hosts.
