Comments:
Continuation of our (TS)SOSB entries in the CQWPX SSB Test in the past several
years.
Past two were 80M and 15M so decided to try 20M this time with our Force 12
C3.
Our decision was debatable all weekend as the Solar Flux favored 15M as the
best band, with the MUF around 22 Mhz between the US and EU for most of the
time.
This of course led to high absorption on 20M during midday with signals down
significantly, with LP stations such as ours finding it almost impossible to
get through to the Europeans who were mostly working each other anyway. This led
to some really low hourly rates.Best rate was 55 the first hour and went down
from there. The vast majority of our points were from S&P with some mediocre
runs Saturday night and the last two hours of the test.
The most interesting calls were from S79NEN while beaming to the West Coast off
the back of the beam and B1Z calling in at 2211Z Sunday night along with JT5DX.
We only had trouble with the exchange on a handful of callers due to some DX
stations with very distorted audio and splatter.
For what it's worth, 351 stations worked were from EU and 350 from the US.
In any case, had a great time in one of my favorite contests, since it combines
the best elements of DX contests and the ability to work US stations for
credit.
Thanks to all who called. Hourly breakdown below.
