Comments:

Like last year, Hesston College graduation weekend was also 7QP weekend. I took
off 2.0 hours in the afternoon for an Aviation reception and another 2.5 hours
in the evening for an all-college awards presentation. The breaks actually
helped because I didn't really get tired this year as I do some years, but I
know I missed some counties.

Good activity this year with exactly the same county count as last year. I
picked up on less mobiles specifically operating the 7QP, but there were a
number of very friendly mobiles who just answered my CQs. Several of them gave
me more than one county as they travelled along. 15m was open a bit more this
year compared to last year, and I even had one 10m contact with NK7U.

The fixed stations, mobile stations, and expeditions once again did a great
job. Overall, I worked 394 unique calls, down from 488 last year. Because I
knew I'd be missing some op time, I concentrated on the 7QP and only put New
England and Indiana in the log when they called me. It's hard to resist calling
them when I hear them (as I usually do), but that takes away lots of time which
I felt I needed this year. Here's the top Q list:

12 K7EAR/r NG7M/r
08 N7XU/m AA5TL/m
07 N7AT NK7U W7RN

Here's my county history plus this year's county stats. I did operate in 2006,
but only put in 9 hours that year so it's not included.

2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 : MAX POSSIBLE
--14 --14 --13 --14 --14 --15 : 15 Arizona (sweep)
--16 --15 --21 --22 --14 --18 : 44 Idaho (tnx N7XU/m!)
--24 --21 --16 --27 --13 --12 : 56 Montana
--08 --04 --08 --11 --07 --10 : 17 Nevada
--34 --33 --30 --28 --31 --31 : 36 Oregon (new record)
--19 --20 --20 --18 --17 --11 : 29 Utah
--31 --26 --27 --32 --32 --30 : 39 Washington
--07 --13 --07 --05 --08 --06 : 23 Wyoming
------------------------
-153 -146 -142 -157 -136 -133 : 259 total counties
-550 -621 -611 -654 -694 -640 : total contacts
15.0 16.4 16.1 17.6 14.1 13.5 : total hours

I've also been keeping track of counties worked in the 7QP each year. No one is
likely to work all 259 in one year, but if you combine the years, I'm down to 36
remaining. This year, I picked up three new ones .. NVLAN NVLIN WAPEN.

Here are the counties I have never worked in the 7QP :

AZ : worked all of them
ID : ADM BEN BLA BUT CAM CAR CLA CUS FRA FRE LEW ONE POW WAS
MT : BLA DAN DEE GOL LIB MAD ROO ROS SHE STI SWE TRE WHE WIB
NV : HUM MIN
OR : worked all of them
UT : worked all of them
WA : ASO FER GAR
WY : NIO UIN WAS

The CODXC has turned this event into a terrific QSO party and one I look
forward to every year. Thanks for another great effort.

Listen for the Kansas QSO Party the last weekend in August. If you didn't earn
your 1965 Amateur Radio stamp and certificate or if you did and want to try for
a new (different) stamp, stay tuned. Of course we also have lots of plaques to
award, too!

73, Bob, w0bh
