Comments:

Wow, what a difference a year can make! Is the solar cycle peaking out
already?

We had a high hope of making more than 3000 QSOs as we did last year, but the
propagation on 10mb was way down and the geo-magnetic disturbances from CME did
not help, either. We improved our 80mb antenna, which increased our score
there, but definitely this was not enough to cover up the deteriorated
propagation on 10mb.

Here are some highlights and lowlights from this year's operations.

[Highlights]
*Added antenna on 20mb (Hex beam) for hunting multiplier did an excellent job
with good F/B ratio for switching long path and short path.
*Our new rotary dipole on 80mb, which replaced a fixed dipole, made a big
change on 80mb. We worked Zones 8 and 9, which had been very difficult with
the previous antenna.
*Finally worked one-and-only Zone 14 station, DF0HQ, on 10mb with the scatter
path over the Indian Ocean after our sunset on Sunday.
*Worked W3HNK, Joe, on the air for the fist time in my life after exchanging
hundreds of SASEs for the QSLs that he manages.

[Lowlights]
*Our logging note PC crashed as many as 2 times at the peak hour of U.S runs,
which should have cost us nearly 100 QSOs. We were operating with the PC
placed on top of our kotatsu (Japanese electric leg warmer) which seemed to
have got too hot and caused the damage to the PC.
*10mb was very poor with geo-magnetic disturbance. There seemed to be a line
on 50 deg North latitude, and anyone located to the north of the line was
either extremely weak or not heard.

This concludes our team efforts for the year 2012 at JG1ZUY. I may work ARRL
10mb part-time, but otherwise, hope to see you all again in 2013 contests.

Icko, JA1BPA
