Comments:
It was last minute jump into chair, as I was so busy with traveling for company
all over the Europe. Fortunately, Boro, 4O6Z is on station all November, who
repair and put all into perfect order. So, Friday was relaxed, used for
sleeping and some minor software adjustments.
Contest started fine. RUNs on 40M were good, a bit better than last year, and
all looks to be exciting.
But, suddenly after 7 hours, PC starts to block and behave strange. I did few
system restarts, checked this and that, and after half of hour, it starts to
works again. Still I do not have an idea what problem it was.
After this sudden problem, all goes slowly down. Score was starting to lose
comparing target file from last year, and it kept to follow it almost linear
until the end.
Low bands were very good â" no noise, wide open and some statistics from SH5
are very colorful itself:
1. First day high band close at 2030, when I QSY on 40M. Earlier than last
year.
2. Second day I left high bands and QSY on 40M at 1730!! No additional comments
are needed.
High bands were closed quickly, and no almost any Caribbean or SA stations left
few hours after USA, as usually. It makes huge impact on low MPL score on High
Bands.
Now figures which show exactly what propagation we had:
USA BAND distribution
LOW BANDS
40M â" 910
80M â" 115
160M â" 29
Total Low Band 1054
20M â" 368
15M â" 552
10M â" 362
Total High Band 1300
It clearly describes how bad propagation were in generally and no enough USA
propagation on high bands. Best USA band was 40M, extraordinary better than
any high band.
JA BAND DISTRIBUTION
LOW BANDS
40M â" 62
80M â" 21
160M â" 70
Total Low Band 153
20M â" 56
15M â" 46
10M â" 40
Total High Band 142
ONLY 295 JAs on all bands!? Biggest surprise was when I find out that I did
more JAs on Low bands, and best JA band was 160M!?? What a surprise!
I made new 4SQ on 160M, and it helps a lot, but even with good antenna it was
something I even not dreamed about. By the way, 160M was highlight of this
contest, and on their sunrise, I was able to pick JAs signals out from EU pile
up easily. I never have had that experience before from Montenegro.
Now, when these figures are on table, it is easy to understand that competing
with CR2X was not possible at all. It was two completely different planets this
time. But anyway, even it is clear that we have very small chances in competing
with CR2X, competing is always nice and gives some motivation.
Gladly, I did more than 7000 QSOs again, and looks that score was maximum what
could be done from here. I had 5 hours with 200+Qs, and best clock hour was
229 Qs/hour.
Due WRTC final calculations I did not have competitions in SOAB from area, but
looks that MS stations had even less QSO counts.
I cannot complain about anything this year, and I was muck luckier that Tonno
in SSB part with weather - no high band noise, and no any electricity failure.
Up to now it was opposite â" he had nice post card weather, and I was
constantly complaining and crying about problems (Ranko, always some excuses?),
which he never experience in 4 years. Now his overall picture is a bit more
realistic ï
Congratulations to OH6KZP for routine drive of CR2X, and expected score. I hope
that my triplexers help at least a bit, making his station more powerful.
Also I fully support future On Line scoring. It was wonderful to watch it. If
WEB owners needs any help to make it more reliable, surely will have wide help
from contest community, starting from myself.
