Comments:
It has been interesting to see OCDXC from 9M8 location.
Propagation was great Thursday and Friday and I had nice runs on 20 and 30
meters prior the contest.... but with the magnetic storn on Saturday, upper
bands were more less gone... signals were marginal and bands did not stay open
for long.
I have set up only 40m/WARC bands vertical as I did not expect much activity on
160 or 80m.
For 20/15/10 I used a Hy-Gain Explorer.
I had a good start into a contest with a solid run on 10m to Eu.
Then Kuching was hit by severe tropical storm with strong wind and lighting.
My 40m vertical, based on the fishing rod was broken.
In a middle of the night I did a quick change from broken vertical to Inverted
L.
It has been a blessing in a way as I got additional band- 80m which was not so
dead after all.
I had some other challenges as well, but managed to overcome them all :-)
As my antennas were pointing mainly NE N NW, not so many VK's were heard.
Those I heard I could work on the back of the beam....
All in all it was great to visit Kuching again and experience a great local
hams hospitality and local specialty foods
(chili crab and bilin are always on the top of my menu)
To top it all, it is a durian season. As I love this "king of the fruit" it was
a feast not to be forgotten for a long time.
