Comments:

Hello All!

First I have to say this has been a long time in the wake up for me. I missed
the 2010 contest due to the station being built a week late due to scheduling
conflicts etc. 2011 was missed thanks to Hurricane Irene destroying my station
and home in its entirety. Its taken me 13 months to rebuild EVERYTHING and
replace a lot of equipment. Albeit, I was keeping my fingers (and toes)
crossed as this weekend approached hoping it went off without a hitch; and so
it did! So this is my first contest back in the saddle and the DX Gods smiled
upon us all! Respectable SFI and the cooperative A & K indices made for a very
wild weekend. The weekend weather here was not so good which made it very easy
to stay put in the saddle(thirty four and one half hours).

Weekend Highlights:

-New Stations! and a bunch of em too! Time to update the call file as I am
sure there will be many new additions. Great to see it as well. Welcome to
the newbies.

-Band Conditions were excellent. I had sustained rates in the 100- 170 range
for most of the operating time.

-Saturday evening was insane on 15 meters working JA's. I think I worked every
licensed HAM in Japan. Thanks for all the JA contacts. Every so often
Indonesia, Thailand and China would pop in for a quick contact too.

-As always the German stations made a remarkable presence.

-Getting to learn the new FTDX 5K MP and all it can do. I think there should
be a class on the filtering. Eh, no biggie. It gives me a good excuse to sit
in front of he radio more often. Quite a bit different coming from the 1KMP.
The 5K and Alpha 9500 preformed perfectly. No equipment hardware problems to
report at all.

-Optibeam 12-4 was superb! Having 2 elements for 40 meters at 70 feet has its
advantages.

Weekend Low Lights:

-I did notice some minor software glitches. Non of which were game changers.

-I struggled on 80 meters and could not make a better showing like the other
bands.

Notwithstanding, it was a great weekend and it was most certainly a lot of
work. But fun work. The FTDX 5000 MP combined with the Alpha 9500 and
Optibeam 12-4 has, for me, put me in a different contesting frame of mind.

Thank you for all the Q's. It's great to be back!

Anthony (N2KI)
