Comments:
What a disappointment! Due to some domestic neccessities I didn't get on until
19:30Z. I started on 10m and found it dead. I included tuning through the
beacon band and found only the K6FRC beacons in Manteca and Sonora, CA. (I
wanted to check if possibly 10 might be open, but no one trying to use it, as
has been seen in past events. I moved from 10m to 15m finding only 3 QSO's, GA,
NH and WV. I moved to 20m at 20:00Z. I stayed on 20m until 21:50Z. At 21:55Z I
again tried 15m and worked 6 stations. Only hearing those 6 stations. At 22:45Z
I again checked 10 and again found it dead. Between 23:00 and 00:00 I tuned
through 40 and worked 2 stations, moving back to 20 at 00:15. I stayed on 20
until 03:00Z. I checked 80M and only found a rag chew on 3840KHz involving
several of the regular folks who hang out there. At 04:40 I moved back to 40,
working what I could, another 12 QSO's before my clock ran out at 05:15Z.
Immediately after first finding 10m dead I checked the Solar Ham Website which
told the aweful news of an M3.3 Flare at 18:24Z as the contest was starting as
well as an ongoing 600km/second Solar wind. Both 15 and 20 were very noisy and
unstable. When I got to 40 it was displaying severe noise problems from ongoing
violent thunder storms down in AZ all day and into the evening. One of the
weather tools I use is the Eldorado Weather Website which has a Southwest
Lightning Detector page which graphically shows all of the lightning strikes
going on, in the west in live time. I had hoped to do much better and maybe
make a new ststion record for NAQP SSB, like I did on CW, but "no
cigar". TNX to the several KB'ers who gave me points on 40. Bert, K6CSL
