Comments:

Part time (~20 hours) "small amp laboratory" effort. I have an amplifier (~400W)
which I hardly ever use and never ever have used in any contest. I always
suspected that going from 100W to 400W (6dB or about 1 S unit) was not going to
compensate for "competitive disadvantage" of moving categories from LP to HP and
directly competing with "full legal limit" (and some "infinity and beyond")
guys. This was the time to actually put it to the test and conduct a conclusive
experiment (I'm a physicist by education). I was switching between 100 and 400 W
throughout the contest (roughly 50% QSOs done at 100 W and 50% at 400 W, but
obviously I submit the log in HP category) while observing my signal as
reported by the Reverse Beacon Network at all times. Conclusion, you ask? I am
more confused than ever: RBN has far too many truly "crazy" results, frequently
reporting me going significantly DOWN when I INCREASED power and such. Seems
radio is more witchcraft than science...
