Comments:

I was testing a temporary antenna that we will bring to St Croix for the ARRL dx
tests.  My regular antenna is a shunt fed 114 foot tower with lots of radials. 
The test antenna is 1/4 wave of wire that goes up 30 feet and then bends over
and goes out to 20 feet above ground.  It has nine 40 foot radials and matches
50 ohms with no extra components.

I switched back and forth many times and called CQ on each many times.  I was
amazed that the difference was never more than 2 or 3dB.  Worked were 13 JAs,
an HL, 2 UA0s, a VK and some easier stuff.  The VK was only readable on the
temporary antenna (and a beverage).
