Propagation to Europe seemed down at the start, so I had to content
myself with a lot of 1-pointers, which revealed themselves in the final
score: more QSOs + fewer mults than last year = lower score than last year.
Fortunately, things turned around later Saturday and many European stations
were worked on first call on both 20 and 40 meters. Didn't elicit any sustained
runs this time around - almost all S&P. Had planned to stay awake for
European sunrise, but summer heat, especially in the shack with no air
conditioning, induces sleep more readily than in the winter contests!
Still managed to eke out a few more Qs and mults early Sunday morning, but
couldn't get past last year's score.
I never caught a Pacific opening, and worked only a very few African stations.
Best DX catch was Saudi Arabia. It was also nice to work old friends Doug, KY4F
and QRP stalwarts Tim, KT8K and Tom, AA1CA. A tip of the hat goes to Bert, N4CW
for racking up a great score as a QRP op from Downeast Maine (as W1IMI)!
Thanks, as always, to the superb, persistent operators who enable us QRP ops
to have more fun than 5 watts should entitle us!
