Comments:

Though the category title was M/2 we took a pretty casual approach to this
contest and effectively were about a M/1.25 between playing around in the VHF
contest, watching golf on TV, and pursuing other distractions. 10 Meters was a
pleasant surprise and likely was more open than people thought and suffered
from a lack of stations on the band more than propagation. At this time of the
year 80 Meters is tough our west and really was only open the last hour of the
contest.

Our most memorable moment actually occurred just before the start as we were
reconfiguring the radios, microKeyers, and WriteLog to RTTY. Right after
getting the 15 Meter station set up we wanted to tune to a RTTY signal to see
if the receive functionality was working. So, tuned the band and found a
station calling CQ in the clear. CQ CQ T6T T6T CQ! Wow that was a surprise!
Quickly hit Alt-K dumped our call in and got a reply back before the hordes
descended on the frequency. Not bad for 100W and beaming on the JA stack --
about 60 degrees off the correct heading.
