Comments:
Very up and down with much rough sledding. 40 seemed to collapse at ~02z Friday
night but 80 and 160 were fair so spent my time down there with a few Q's on 20
thrown in. 40 was a struggle all weekend, 80/160 were better the first night
but not much depth. Where were all the DL's?
20 opened fairly well Sat am, had a brief run with a few Asians thrown into the
mix - including JT5DX. 15/10 were all S&P, had decent rate for the first pass -
I would hear those same stations a LOT for the rest of the weekend. 10 was all
bent path on Sat to EU but workable. Had a decent run on 15 at mid-day, the
only time I could run for an extended time on that (or any) band.
Worked a few EU on 40 Sat afternoon, then except for a 1/2 hour S&P into JA on
15 everything seemed to collapse. Couldn't find much of anything to work. Had
only 2 qso on 160 the second night, the 05/06/07 hours yielded rate of 6/1/2.
Spent a lot of time calling stations on 160 I can usually work easily without
success. The skip seemed much better than the activity. Spent 5 mins calling
RL3A on 80 before i realized the verts were pointing SW, but that time he was
fading. One of the highlights was catching him for my last Q of the contest.
Sunday things continued poorly. My low band sweep in the 11z hour yielded no
QSOs and I had only 9 q in the 12z hour. Not sure if it was condx or the
operator. Probably both. I got a couple short burst runs on 15 before going
to 10. Had a fair run there, not fast but steady. No Scandinavia and few
Eastern EU. Decided to abandon that for the High Rate on 15 which i knew was
there - again couldn't do more than a few short bursts. Managed a steady
25-30/hr from 16z on. 10 provided a slow but steady diet of LU and PY
stations.
While at times it was a major struggle, it was a good contest. Raising my TH6
made all the diffence in the world. Next project is something better on 40.
