Comments:
Although I consider myself more of a CW-guy it was nice to do a single-op SSB
effort after quite a while, especially from such a superb location. Many thanks
to Radio Arcala team for hosting me! Special thanks to OH2BH, OH8NC and CU2CE
who spent almost an entire day climbing up and down the steep and slippery hill
side in a strong wind, fixing the 160 m inverted L and installing the beverage!
Without their invaluable help my modest 160 meter numbers would have been even
worse. Thanks to OH2UA for the remote support with setting up the station.
Made some mistakes before and during the contest that probably cost me at least
a few hundred QSO's:
- spent a lot of time trying to make the audio sharing to internet work from
both radios Friday night, couldn't do it and ended up with no time to sleep
before the contest. I should've just dropped it as Toni, OH2UA suggested. Had
to pay for it dearly on Sunday morning when sleep deprivation hit me hard and I
started to fall asleep between QSO's. Had to sleep a couple of hours both
mornings to keep me going.
- spent occasionally too much time on slower bands trying to make the last
missing mults instead of enjoying the high rates on 15 or 20, e.g. in the last
hour of the contest my brain must have gone really soft because I walked away
from a 250+ Q/h run on 20 to waste more than a half an hour for a few Q's and
one mult on 40-80-160 only to return to work 83 QSO's in the last 20 minutes.
Despite all that I was happy to reach the target of claiming a new EU record
and to achieve my personal goal of 7000 Q's (with dupes).
Some funny and not so funny moments outside the contest included having my shoe
stolen by a cattle dog, a cow scaring me half to death at night by rocking my
SUV while I was in it (it just decided to scratch it's back against it),
getting the SUV stuck in the mud when trying to leave the station after the
contest - thanks to Jose, CU2CE and the local fire department for pulling me
out next morning.
Thanks to all for the QSO's!
