Comments:
First time entry in this contest for KL2HD. It is certainly a technically
challenging contest with the different exchanges and QSY requirements along
with strategy necessary for a short contest. Lots of things to keep track of
and juggle - you definitely cannot sit back and take it as it comes - you have
to work constantly. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but the rhythm
to the process eventually started to make some sense. Perhaps I'll be fluid at
it someday... Thanks to all who were patient with me as I learned.
As a new recruit to the contest, I found it difficult to set a goal going into
it. It would have been nice to be able to query an online database for
previous contest scores from the state or region to set a realistic goal and
have something to strive towards. That's always a fun way to push yourself
just a bit more.
Timing for this contest is not optimal for Alaska because 20m is the only band
open when lower 48 states have moved to 40 or 80m. I probably missed some 40m
Qs as I was searching 7150-200 when most of the contacts I eventually made on
40 were higher around 7225-250 so I didn't think that 40 was open and I stayed
on 20 longer than I probably should have done.
Thanks to Rich KL7RA for pre-event instruction and the opportunity to use his
superstation. Great learning experience and I left a better operator.
Looking forward to working this contest again!
73,
KL2HD
