Comments:

Spent one to two hours mid Saturday morning in between looking for the K9 &
T3
expeditions. Propagation to JA has been strange since shortly before the WW
phone contest with only the mega stations coming through and cq'ing getting
very few takers. Normally if the band is open in that direction we get copy
whilst northern and western EU struggle. Of late the boot has been on the other
foot, I could hear the Ua4's right across to UK making contact with JA's I
couldn't hear.

After coming up 40 years in this hobby I should have propagation figured out,
we think we do but then it all gets turned upside down. I spent an hour on 20m
mid evening the other day, beaming west for central America and maybe some
Pacific long path, the eastern path should have been closed. According to
propagation forecasts it should have been good but the band was pretty dead I
had 4 very strong SP VK plus a Vu on the back of the beam I got just 3 DL's
and nowhere else in EU, a couple of LU's, plus just 4 USA guys. Three of the
four USA guys were S5/6 at best, the other was running just 1 watt but was Q5
all the way, talk about selective openings, I was sure pleased to give him a dx
contact on a dead band For sure we never stop learning but we do forget whilst
sitting looking at Cluster spots waiting for something to happen that getting
on air can make things happen.
