Comments:
This was a CQP to cherish! Thanks to K6UFO, W6LD, KZ2V, ND2T, K6MM and K2YY for
helping me a lot with the station setup. We had a combination of club equipment
and a lot of personal equipment brought from W6LD, N7MH, ND2T, K6MM and I.
Ten days before CQP, N7MH, K6UFO and I discussed having a serious M/M at W6YX
for CQP this year. I helped organize it, and N7MH and I discussed strategies
that we could implement at the W6YX station.
Six stations with amplifiers were set up. A seventh was set up in the first
hour of the contest. During the first few hours of the contest, we replaced a
broken footswitch, a Heil ProSet, and a monitor that would toggle between
properly displaying the screen and going totally black. We also found that my
SB-200 amplifier did not like 10m, as we were getting reports of hum and bad
audio. We ran that station at 100W for the weekend on 10m. When it was on
40m, we could run power, as the SB-200 performed better there. We accidentally
blew the 10m position on N7MH's ICE419 bandpass filter. The 5-el 15m antenna
developed high SWR and we couldn't use it on Sunday. But everything else
survived and worked well. Thanks to Sawson KG6NUB who repaired an Astron 35A
supply before the contest. I didn't have time to stress test it before the
contest, so we put a K3 on it for the contest and hoped for the best. It
worked well.
We were delighted that K6MM and ND2T were able to join us, but the circumstance
itself was quite disappointing (postponement of the Wake Island DXpedition).
They were able to CQ some of their sorrows away in CQP.
Apologies if you called us on 10m and we couldn't hear you. Noise at the
station on 10m is steadily increasing and the band is not as quiet as it used
to be years ago.
As usual, we enjoyed watching N7MH operate two radios.
We really had a blast and we thank you for all of the QSOs!
Below is the list of our equipment and our rate sheets in case you're
interested in seeing them.
