Comments:
AA1K Jon and N3TTT Adam teamed up for a father-son entry in Multi/2 -- first
time contesting for Adam since 2002 and a first in that category for this
station. Great conditions made for a fun weekend. Murphy struck a few times but
we pressed on.
Rigs: K3 (two) and TS950SDX. Alpha 89 and Alpha 91B. Multiple towers and
antennas (see www.aa1k.us).
Station was totally torn down in August to install new hardwood flooring in the
shack, and we were still wiring up the equipment a few minutes before the
contest. Discovered dead 20-meter high yagi on Thursday and made climb at
sundown to repair broken beta match wire. Did not discover dead 80-meter
inverted vee till after dark on Friday and lived without that band the first
night. Hooked up an old delta loop on Saturday so we could make some contacts
on 80.
A big THANKS to Jeanie AB1P who chose not to contest but supported us in a big
way with some great meals delivered to the shack.
Addition of second Alpha amp this year (thanks again to AB1P!) made for a lower
noise level and less heat in the shack and worked flawlessly all weekend. The
double-rack of glass-tube amps that were in service at AA1K since about 1984 --
and many years previous to that elsewhere in the Frankford Radio Club -- have
been retired to the electronics shed for refurbishing and reassignment.
