Comments:
One for the memory books, definitely. In fact it will be hard to operate
contests after this one, simply because its hard to believe it will ever be
better.
Station worked superbly. All problems fixed, thanks to help from N6TR. Had a
pretty big wind event for the first 18 hours of the contest, but other than a
few episodes of precipitation static it had no impact on anything.
Low band conditions were so much better than anything heard here during contest
season thus far that it was quite a shock. Never got a real 80m opening to EU,
but there were certainly plenty of guys worked. And the 40m propagation to EU
was outstanding.
Even though the 10m opening was pretty weak on Sunday to EU, the rates were
just as fast overall. Which was pretty amazing.
There were so many guys on that the skimmer spot pileup problem (where you stop
sending and all of a sudden there are 10 guys calling you all zero beat) hardly
ever happened. Just too many of us on making noise to have them happen.
The last hour of this contest was about as much fun as I have ever had
operating the radio. The WW is the unique contest that can give you a double
multiplier, and the effect it has on your enjoyment (not to mention your score)
when you get some of those at the end is huge. Thanks to all of you who give
them to a bunch of tired but happy operators!
Congrats to the excellent operators who really make this one a joy. I didn't
notice nearly as many bad signals on in this contest. A few people had bigger
clicks, but I think the CQWW bad signal policy may be having its intended
effect. I also noticed that people were identifying more often and I don't
remember ever having to wait an extraordinarily long time to learn who a pileup
was on.
Its hard to believe that CW is dying the day after you operate WW CW!
