Comments:
Didn't think I'd get on at all for this one - the balun for my OCF dipole fried
during the week before the contest, but a Buxcomm replacement arrived Saturday
morning and I got everything back up in the air a few hours before the start.
I could only put in a few hours right at the start, but when I went to 15M
early on I found VE8EV low in the band. That meant a Sweep was possible, so
when I got back Saturday night I got back on and S&Ped to see how many
sections I could find.
On Sunday, I was out until about noon and then got to work. By early afternoon,
all I needed was SNJ, WV and AK. I moved down to 40, found a frequency and had a
nice run and finally worked SNJ - I never did work N2MM, tho. Hank K3YDX called
in and was a few QSOs ahead of me, so I kept at it.
The run was still going strong, but the Sweep was calling, so I QSYed to 15 -
and landed right on N4ZR's frequency. WV is a ground wave shot from here, but
Pete heard me and crossed that one off the list.
I kept tuning 15 and marked down 3 KL7s, all of whom were basically at ESP
level. I never got through and by dinner time I hadn't gotten through. After I
came back down to the shack and started tuning 20 - and found a KL7 for the
Sweep.
After that a bit of running on 80M, with many comments of "wow, there is a
pipeline to MDC" as PVRC was out in force. Always interesting to see the
broad mix of Checks you get back in Phone SS - a lot more that begin with 0 or
1, but also a lot more that begin with 4 as compared to CW SS.
N1MM+ performed flawlessly after some pre-contest help from N4ZR figuring out
.wav file issues. I do miss the old style section mult window (by call areas) -
I hope that comes back.
