Comments:
I oftentimes boycott this contest. Why?
<on soapbox> Because Cal is the only contest who makes us sign
"MR" as our (so called) section.
I guess it's a 2-letter equivalent of "MAR".....Even "MAR"
has been dropped by the majority of contests. NB, NS, NF/LB and PEI are
all separate Provinces people ! Heck, it's like saying RI,MD, DE and DC should
all be called "RMDC" or something. Give your head a shake
and get with the times.
If you don't hear many VE1/VA1, VO1/2, VE9 or VY2's on in this contest, perhaps
a little lightbulb should go off in your collective heads.
Also, while I am on the soapbox, MANY (if not most) QSO parties offer at least
one plaque for Canadians.
On phone I heard as often as not "What is MR?"....other responses
were "Are you in Marin?....Manitoba?...Mike What?..
.Is that supposed to be MAR?.... I thought VE9's were in NB?" (bless this
ham, he knows his geography!)...on CW I heard two guys send back to me
"NB?"
and quite a few sent "MB?" or "MN?"
<off soapbox>
I think in all my hours of operation I worked 1 mobile guy twice.
It was really nice to work W6SX, K6RB (guest opping), N6AA (nice call), N6O
(all bands except 160), AE6Y Andy, who exclaimed he
didn't know I owned a mic (hi), N6TV for nearly a sweep and a plethora of other
very familiar W6 callsigns too numerous to mention.
I gave up early on day 2 as I had worked out pretty much everyone that I could
hear with my small station. Where were all the mobiles?
I had fun, but if you don't hear me next year, now you'll know why ! ;-)
73 de Mike VE9AA , disgruntled in "New Brunswick", not some
fictitious MR (or even MAR) section ! Harrumph !
