Comments:

Finally tossed in the towel at the 20 hour mark, frustrated after 3 consecutive
20 hours. Had a couple of productive hours on 15 and 20M ssb, but overall
could never get much going this year. Propagation seemed to favor the stations
closer to California this year, particularly for running; I could work anything
I could hear, but I could hear others working a lot of stuff that I couldn't
hear. With the signals in the doldrums at 2pm local time I tossed it in.

Got the sweep at 0118Z when KA6JLT called in from Sierra. Last 3 counties
worked were Merced, Madera, and finally Sierra. A number of big stations
seemed to be missing this year- no W6TI, K6NA, and it seemed several others.
It was good to see Bob N6TV, found a microphone- first time I ever remember him
being on phone for this one. I did manage to work 5 stations on 160M. Of the
stations that I worked there, K6XX was the loudest, but he was down to N5ZO/6,
but ZO couldn't hear me.  It was good to have the vertical Rx arrays at K1LZ;
without them I probably couldn't have heard most of the stations I did work.

I know I got beat out this year by K5TR, NA4K, K0HC, and probably several
others; as I said before, it seemed that the propagation gods were not in my
favor for this year's contest. Maybe next year- I'll be back!

Thanks to Krassy K1LZ for the use of his great station, and to Velamir K3JO for
his help in getting everything operational.

Dennis W1UE
