A new record for this contest at WX3B...AND a new record number of QSOs in a
contest for my team!

Record high band conditions (for us) and a change in our plans at the last
minute gave me 24 hours to pull together a casual Multi/Multi team for this
contest.

I was very fortunate to have young Nick, a new PVRC member KK4ODQ (age 18!)
join our team...along with his Dad Curt (KK4ODR) for the weekend.

Nick arrived at 10:15am Saturday, sat down in a chair with zero training or
initiation....and with the exception of a few hours of sleep Saturday night, he
stayed IN THE CHAIR most of the time until late Sunday afternoon. Great work,
Nick....we know you will do BIG THINGS for PVRC in your future!!

Bill, K3WI did the early morning shift both days and basically lit 10 meters on
FIRE!! A little after noon Saturday there were about 1,000 QSOs in the log.
Very strong work, Bill!! Bill also came back and rattled off hundreds of QSOs
Sunday morning and made it look easy. I have to say the natural rhythm Bill
adopts when dealing with the dense pileups makes it look and sound easy - which
is particularly impressive since Bill considers himself mostly a CW operator!

Andrew AC6WI took the long ride to Taneytown and enjoyed some good...and not so
good runs. He finally did get a turn on some open bands after suffering with a
rather slow 40 meters at WX3B. Andrew also provided the much needed ride to go
food shopping...something that desperately needed to be done for weekend
service. All of us agreed that Andrew's voice needs to be left on the voice
keyer for the next contest, and Andrew definitely won the "voice of
america" award for best audio in the contest.

Tom K3AJ was here to help kick off the contest Friday night and he did both
Friday and Saturday night until the very early morning hours.

Ted WA3AER was our scheduled Sunday man - he arrived early in the morning and
toughed it out until the very end. Ted made sure that last QSO in 10
meters....happened to be a needed MULTIPLIER!!

Bob W3IDT also arrived Saturday afternoon in time to play late night radio with
our group!! Bob has been to WX3B for other events including the popular K2F 13
colony event.

Eric, N3TD made a return visit to WX3B Sunday morning and was handsomely
rewarded with one good opportunity to run on 10 meters after K3WI departed!

Band conditions were excellent this weekend, particularly on the high bands.
The solar flares (there were several?) kept us on our toes. The bands died
mid-day Saturday....particularly 15 & 20. Sunday morning's high band
openings were later than we expected.

Many thanks to our radio friends around the world who keep this contest so
interesting. I DO appreciate everyone's enthusiasm when the work us. It was
treat to run into several USA friends I haven't talked to in a very long time
and fun to take a couple minutes to catch up.

73!

Jim Nitzberg WX3B
