Comments:
This was a part-time effort for me. As everyone has already said, 10m was
spectacular. I had a straight 6-hour run on 10 that yielded 600+ Qsos and that
included a 200-hour on 28,998 kHz. Lots of fun!
Started the contest using my K3 with the KPA-500, 500w amp. However, 500w was
not cutting it, so I switched to the Acom 2000A, 1500w amp, and used it the
rest of the way. Both amps performed flawlessly, but the extra power proved to
be very beneficial.
I am always disappointed and frustrated in SSB contests because of the large
number of stations with poor audio and excessive, probably due to too much mic
gain, too much compression, or both. It's unfortunate that the ops do not
check out their tx audio before a contest and make the necessary adjustments to
make sure their transmitted signals are clean. How can this problem be
addressed?
