Comments:

My rover station was 900 MHz FM only using a 2-watt Alinco handy-talky and a
homebrew 9-element WA5VJB "cheap yagi". And what a pleasant change to
travel with lightweight minimal equipment and one-minute setup, after several
Pacific NW grid expeditions this year with the giant 6M5 antenna.

Best DX was another QRP rover with the same equipment, WE7X /R at 62 km.

The contest proved yet again that Mt Pilchuck CN98bb is a magical place for
propagation across Puget Sound. Later, there were zero contacts in 1.5 hours
from Skyline HS CN87xo near home on the plateau, although the spot works well
on 144 MHz.

Many thanks to all the rovers in the Seattle area (four) and the activity made
this contest a lot of fun. 

The HRO sale of Alinco DJ-G29 (222, 900 MHz) handhelds for $170 was quite
popular in this area, in part due to discussion at the PNWVHFS Conference a
week earlier. Some people (myself included) got on the road just to try them
out. Now it's tempting to also get a tri-band Alinco DJ-G7 (144, 430, 1200 MHz)
handheld for a convenient 5-band QRP FM station.
