Comments:

This was a casual and intermittent event for me as I had to work part of
Saturday and the band folded around 4:30 PM at this QTH.  As an experiment, I
constructed a raised GP Vertical with 8 radials and it seemed to work well.  It
was about 8 feet above ground with the radials set at a 45 degree angle.  The
measured SWR using a MFJ-269B was from 1.2:1 at 28 Mhz to 1.6:1 at 28.6 Mhz. It
appeared to be one to two S-units better than the G5RV but a bit nosier of
course. Best DX worked to the east was South Africa and to the west was Hawaii
so I was pretty happy given band conditions, and what seemed to be fewer
stations on this year.
